The Germans were not the first to build bunkers armed with powerful weapons. However, as the war situation turned to the German's disadvantages, such solid fixed firing points appeared more and more on the German defense lines. The Panther medium tank, which entered service in 1943, was the best German medium tank in late WWII. Its turret was fitted with a powerful 7.5cm KwK 42 L/71 tank gun that could penetrate the front armor of almost any tank at a distance of 1,500m.As a large number of Panther turrets were built, some were modified by the Germans to install on bunkers. The most common bunkers were built with Panther Ausf. A/G turrets. Normally, the Germans installed the turret on a concrete bunker base, so the turret could rotate. When time permitted, they would also install some necessary domestic installatons inside the bunker base.
